Dressing Up Your Pup for Halloween

Dressing up your pet for Halloween is no longer considered no small feat. People today are not going all out for their costumes, but are also considering how creative they can make their pooch look. While you are considering whether or not you will dress up your animal this year here are some safety precautions you should consider to keep your animal safe:

• Be wary of small objects – Make sure to look for any small dangling objects on your pet’s costume that could be easily chewed or choked on.
• Proper ID tags – Make sure that they are wearing tags with current ID. Opening the door repeatedly for trick-or-treaters and walking with your animal creates plenty of escape opportunities.
• Your animal’s comfort level – Make sure the costume isn’t annoying or unsafe. Be sure to pay attention if their movement or hearing, is impeding their ability to breathe, bark or meow. If your pet seems distressed, allergic or shows abnormal behavior, consider skipping the costume or donning a festive bandana.
• Watch out for the candy and chocolate – Chocolate is especially extremely toxic to dogs. There will be plenty of little pieces of candy on the floor, so be sure to be on the lookout.
